Anne Hathaway believes that her Devil Wears Prada character would be living in Paris and working as a staff writer

Anne Hathaway believes her character Andy Sachs, from The Devil Wears Prada, would still be using her journalism degree from Northwestern School of Journalism.

After prematurely leaving her exhausting job as the personal assistant for Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the New York City-based editor-in-chief of Runway Magazine, the 39-year-old actress speculated Andy would have a thriving career abroad.

‘I think Andy is in Paris and I think that she is writing for a wonderful French women’s magazine,’ the star said of where she thinks her character would be up to now.

The mom-of-two added to E! News: ‘I think she’s a staff writer and she speaks French fluently. And I don’t think she’s married, but she might have a 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 or two. I think she’s pretty fab.’

Her predictions come 16 years after The Devil Wears Prada, based on Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour’s former assistant Lauren Weisberger’s novel of the same name, was released in 2006.

Despite the filming grossing over $326 million worldwide, Hathaway says she was ‘so sorry to say that if’ there’s a sequel in the work, ‘nobody’s told’ her.

‘But I think that it would have to be a completely different set of people like the way that they’ve been doing TV series based on hit movies. I could see it possibly going in that direction, but I don’t know that any of us would be involved in it,’ she noted.

The Devil Wears Prada followed Hathaway as the mousey assistant to the editor-in-chief of a prestigious fashion magazine (Streep), who finds her personal life unraveling as her career takes off.

In 2021, the film’s director David Frankel revealed that Hathaway was not his first choice as leading lady.

Groundbreaking: Last month, fans went wild when the actress was seated next to Anna Wintour at the Michael Kors’ Spring/Summer fashion show, 16 years after starring in The Devil Wears Prada, based on the longtime editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine

‘We started negotiating with Annie to make a deal, and that didn’t go well with the studio,’ the filmmaker told Entertainment Weekly. ‘We offered it to Rachel McAdams three times.’

He quipped: ‘The studio was determined to have her, and she was determined not to do it.’

Meanwhile, Hathaway refused to take ‘no’ for an answer as she met with Elizabeth Gabler, then the head of Fox 2000 studio, to discuss ‘why she had to play this role.’

Gabler praised Hathaway for her persistent ‘campaigning’ and divulged the actress left a hilarious message for Carla Hacken [Fox executive] in her Zen garden, which read: ‘Hire me.’

Frankel also noted that after Streep watched Hathaway’s brief performance in Brokeback Mountain, she wanted to ‘meet with her’ and predicted they would ‘work well together.’

‘I patiently waited until it was my turn, and I got the call. It was the easiest yes in the world,’ Hathaway gushed. ‘I remember the moment I found out I got the part, I just ran screaming through my apartment.’

She added: ‘I had a bunch of friends over at the time, I just jumped up in the living room and screamed, “I’m going to be in The Devil Wears Prada!”‘

Previously, Hathaway shocked viewers by revealing she was actually the ninth choice to star in The Devil Wears Prada.

Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, Kate Hudson, Kirsten Dunst, Juliette Lewis and Claire Danes were all also considered to play Andy Sachs.
