In Photos: Shohei Ohtani and wife Mamiko Tanaka steal the attention at Lakers game, share grins with gifted homemade jerseys

The Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani attended the Los Angeles Lakers game with his wife Mamiko Tanaka on Sunday. Right after delivering the historic first season with the Dodgers, Ohtani is taking some time to unwind and spending the offseason closer to his wife and family.

Shohei Ohtani and his wife Mamiko Tanaka were honored by the Lakers team, gifting them custom jerseys with their names printed on the back. The official MLB social handle posted pictures of the couple, holding their custom jerseys.

They also posted a photo of the couple enjoying the Lakers going against the Portland Trail Blazers at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California in the next snap.

“Shohei Ohtani and Mamiko are at the Lakers game tonight and were gifted custom jerseys,” the caption of the post read.

Ohtani has a special connection with the game of basketball as his wife Mamiko Tanaka is a former professional basketball player. Tanaka has played in the national under-24 team and also managed to win the silver medal for Japan at the 2017 Summerside Universiade. Later, she went pro in 2019 with Fujitsu Red Wave of the Women’s Japan Basketball League.

The three-time MVP announced his marriage to Mamiko Tanaka on Instagram in February this year.

Shohei Ohtani’s wife Mamiko Tanaka shows off her basketball s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s right after the World Series victory

In a video clip from the Dodgers’ World Series-winning party, the couple were playing basketball with a few other Dodgers teammates.

Ohtani couldn’t match his wife’s s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s, as Mamiko Tanaka seemingly easily dominated the baseball star in taking shots at the hoop.

When Ohtani announced his marriage on Feb. 29, he consciously decided to keep Tanaka’s identity hidden under the covers, mentioning only that she was from Japan.

“Not only have I began a new chapter in my career with the Dodgers but I also have began a new life with someone from my Native country of Japan who is very special to me and I wanted everyone to know I am now married,” he wrote in the post that quickly went viral.

However, the next month, Ohtani posted a photo with Mamiko Tanaka, posing in front of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ team plane, thus revealing the identity of his wife to the public. Since then, the couple has been seen together in public multiple times, with their pet dog, Decoy.
