The Kardashian-Jenners are no strangers to criticism, especially when it comes to their interior design taste. Even North West once called mom Kim’s home “so ugly.” But Kylie Jenner’s real estate moves tend to be roasted by the internet most often. Palm Springs home was once compared to a Costco. People thought her mansion in California’s Hidden Hills looked like a dollhouse made of cardboard. Now, her $36.5 million Holmby Hills home is under a microscope as fans use “overpriced prison” and “mental facility” to describe the residence.
After the Instagram account @housesofcelebs shared images of Jenner’s property—which maintains a minimalist style in a mainly gray-and-white color palette with very little landscaping—critics flocked to the comments section as if they’d been instantly summoned. Along with a “concrete jail,” people also believe the home looks like a hospital. Someone else gave a very specific reference, stating that it “feels like Wet Republic at the MGM”—a dayclub at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Honestly, I see it.
One person went so far as to say they “have a better house in The Sims” video game than Jenner’s mansion. Others were appalled by the heavy use of gray and the lack of common features. “No windows looking outside to the world is crazy,” someone commented. “Where is the grass?” another asked.
Many agreed that the price tag and design don’t align. “$36 million and she went with shiplap and Chevron ᵴtriƥes? Okay, lol…,” one person wrote. Another added, “Proof that money doesn’t buy taste.”
Alas, your home and how you design it is very personal. A certain someone’s proclivity toward extreme minimalism may be just what they want and isn’t meant to be for everyone!
