The incredible way the Genesis Invitational is paying tribute to Tiger Woods’ late mother Kultida

The Genesis Invitational is not at Riviera Country Club this year and tournament host Tiger Woods won’t be in the field, but the event still has plenty of Woods’ touches on it, like the 36-hole cut, larger purse and smaller field. Not to mention its invitational status.

While Woods had planned on teeing it up, his plans changed on Monday, with the 15-time major winner announcing that he was “just not ready” and that he was still processing the loss of his mother, Kultida Woods, who passed away on Feb. 4 at age 80.

To pay tribute to his late mother, the tournament is utilizing the flag stick on the seventh green at Torrey Pines. The number seven and the color white, which is the color of the seventh flag this week, are both significant in Buddhism. Kultida, a native of Thailand, was a faithful Buddhist:
