Tiger Woods gets chance to watch daughter compete after she refused to take up golf

Tiger Woods was in the stands on Thursday to watch his daughter in action as she helped her high school soccer team advance to the Florida Class 2A state championship game

Tiger Woods was recently seen cheering from the stands as his daughter, Sam Alexis, played a key role in her high school soccer team’s triumph.

Towering above the field he once ruled, Tiger watched on Thursday as Sam, a senior defender for Benjamin High School, helped push the team to a 2-1 victory over Lake Christian, securing a spot in the Florida Class 2A state championship game. While Tiger’s son Charlie is carving out a path similar to his father on the green, Sam has not been captivated by golf in the same way.

In fact, Tiger has shared how golf brought a “negative connotation” for Sam due to the time it required him to be away. “She has, I think, a negative connotation to the game because at that time… when she was growing up, golf took daddy away from her,” Woods said last year.

“I had to pack, and I had to leave and I was gone for weeks and there was a negative connotation to it. So we developed our own relationship, our own rapport that’s outside of golf that we do things that don’t involve golf. Meanwhile, my son and I, we do everything golf-related. It’s very different.”

Her passion for soccer is no secret. Both Sam and Charlie are fans of the game, with Woods revealing to Golf.com in 2018: “They’re keen into soccer. If they want to play golf, that’s great. If they don’t, that’s fine, too. As long as they have a good time playing sports.

“I find that a lot of fun now, to be able to physically get out and pass the ball around with them. I get such a big kick out of watching them compete and play. It’s so much fun to see how happy and passionate they are about soccer.”

Once the soccer season wraps up, Sam will shift her focus to athletics. The high school senior is gearing up to shine in track and field for Benjamin, taking on hurdles and middle-distance events.

Charlie Woods wants to become a golf superstar – just like his dad

Charlie, meanwhile, is hoping to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a professional golfer. The 16-year-old has previously played alongside his dad at the PNC Championship in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, finishing as runners-up twice.

Charlie played in last year’s U.S. Junior Amateur by winning a qualifying event, but he failed to make the cut. He also won the South Florida PGA Junior Cup in 2024, telling reporters afterwards: “I wanted it so bad. I felt focused, and I knew what I had to do to get it done. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do better.”
