Do Elon Musk’s mother and cousins get a discount when they buy a Tesla? The answer will stun you

Do Elon Musk’s mother and cousins get a discount when they buy a Tesla? The answer will stun you

When it comes to buying a Tesla, even Elon Musk’s own family isn’t exempt from paying the full price. Maye Musk, the billionaire’s mother, has reiterated multiple times that her son doesn’t offer discounts—not even to his closest relatives. Despite being the matriarch of one of the most prominent tech dynasties, she has confirmed that Tesla’s pricing policy applies to everyone, including herself.

The topic gained attention once again in 2024 when Musk responded to an old video of Snoop Dogg humorously requesting a free Tesla. Musk made it clear that there are no exceptions—everyone, himself included, must pay the listed price for the electric vehicles. This no-special-treatment approach has been a consistent stance over the years. In fact, as per reports in Benzinga, when Elon bought a Tesla for his mother, he paid the full amount.

While some may expect perks or insider deals for family members, Musk’s firm policy underscores his commitment to fairness and standard pricing for all customers, no matter their relationship to him. In fact, even when his cousin tried to get a “family discount” Elon Musk refused.

Elon Musk’s No-Nepotism Policy

Elon Musk has a clear stance when it comes to Tesla pricing—no special treatment, even for family. This became evident when his cousin, Lyndon Rive, who served as CEO of SolarCity, decided to ask for a discount on a Tesla, according to reports by Tech Insider. Given Musk’s role as chairman of SolarCity, Rive thought it was worth a shot.

However, when he finally brought up the request, Musk’s response was both direct and humorous. Instead of offering a discount, Musk pointed him to Tesla’s official website, stating that the listed price was the family discount—since everyone, regardless of their relationship to him, pays the same amount.

Rive later shared his experience, acknowledging that Musk’s approach is rooted in fairness. He praised Musk for treating everyone equally, emphasizing that nepotism has no place in his business dealings. According to Rive, Musk ensures that policies apply consistently to all, without exceptions.
