Tori Kelly on Honoring Mariah Carey at iHeart Awards: ‘She’s Just the BEST’ (Exclusive)

Tori Kelly is set to honor music icon Mariah Carey at the upcoming iHeart Radio Music Awards, and she couldn’t be more excited. In an exclusive interview, Kelly expressed her anticipation for the event, emphasizing that this is her first time attending the iHeart Awards. “I’m here to pay tribute to Mariah Carey, which is kind of insane,” she shared, reflecting on the significance of the moment.

Kelly revealed that she will be performing “Always Be My Baby,” one of Carey’s most beloved hits. “I think it’s the perfect song because everyone knows it,” she noted, highlighting its universal appeal. As Carey receives the prestigious Icon Award, Kelly is fully aware of the profound influence the legendary vocalist has had on her career. “I can’t even think of a time when I wasn’t listening to Mariah growing up,” she recalled, acknowledging Carey’s lasting impact on a generation of singers.

Describing Carey as “the best” vocally, Kelly credited her for inspiring countless artists, whether they realize it or not. “She’s so ingrained in music and pop culture,” Kelly stated, admiring Carey’s dual talents as both a vocalist and a songwriter. “Once you peel back the layers, you realize she’s behind these songs, which is just insane to me.”

As she prepares for her performance, Kelly is also looking forward to mingling with fellow artists. She mentioned her excitement about possibly meeting Billie Eilish and reconnecting with friends like Gracie Abrams, whom she has yet to meet in person. Although she hasn’t spoken to Carey directly about the tribute, Kelly hopes to catch up with her at the event.

With nerves still present but somewhat subdued compared to her past performances, Tori Kelly is ready to shine on stage in honor of Mariah Carey. “She’s just the best,” Kelly reiterated, as she looks forward to celebrating the music legend at this year’s iHeart Awards.
