Young Nigerian woman bags Nursing degree after 18 years of working as cleaner in the school, celebrates achievement

An exceptional Nigerian woman named Agadani Nnenna Gloria has achieved an extraordinary milestone, earning a Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Nigeria after working as a cleaner at the institution for 18 years.

Additionally, Nnnena was also inducted into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), officially becoming a licensed nurse.

Reflecting on her experience in a heartfelt Facebook post, Nnenna shared how she initially joined the university as a health attendant, responsible for cleaning the classrooms of student nurses.

Over the years, she remained steadfast in her ambition, determined to pursue an education despite the challenges.

However, through sheer determination and resilience, she pushed through to become a student at the same university, taking lectures in the same class she once cleaned.

“Years ago, I was employed as a cleaner to tidy student nurses’ classrooms. After 18 years of hard work, I am now a nurse, licensed to practice by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria,” she wrote.

She acknowledged that the journey was challenges, attributing her success to faith and perseverance. “It was not easy for me, honestly. I thank God for crowning my efforts with success,” she said.

For Nnenna, choosing nursing as a career has been the most rewarding decision of her life. Beyond earning her degree, one of her greatest joys has been providing dedicated nursing care to her father in the comfort of his home.

In another story, 40-year-old Sthembile Mngwengwe earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal after working in the institution as a cleaner for 14 years.

Sthembile, from South Africa, earned her degree in Social Sciences. She narrated that her journey has not been easy as she had to combine work and studies throughout her academic program.
