In 2025, as we look back on the beloved British sitcom “The Likely Lads,” which first aired in 1964, we are reminded of the enduring charm of its characters and the talented actors who brought them to life. The show, which captured the spirit of the 1960s through the friendship of Terry and Bob, has left a significant mark on television history. But what has become of the cast over the decades?

James Bolam, 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 June 16, 1935, in Sunderland, played the witty and rebellious Terry Collier. Now retired at 89, Bolam is respected for his extensive career in television, including roles in “When the Boat Comes In” and “New Tricks.” Despite distancing himself from co-star Rodney Bewes, their bond remains part of television lore.

Rodney Bewes, who portrayed the ambitious Bob Ferris, passed away on November 21, 2017, at 79 due to vascular dementia. His contributions to British comedy are fondly remembered, despite a long-standing feud with Bolam.

Michael Sheard, who played Nesbitt, became known for his authoritative roles in “Grange Hill” and “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.” He passed away from cancer in 2005 at 67, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances.

Other cast members include George Layton, who remains active in the industry at 83, and Susan Jameson, also 83, who has enjoyed a successful career and is married to Bolam. Wendy Richard, remembered for her roles in “EastEnders” and “Are You Being Served,” sadly passed away in 2009 at 65.

Many other actors from the series, such as Jeffrey Hughes and Scott Martin, have also passed, leaving their marks on British television through various memorable roles.

As we reflect on the legacy of “The Likely Lads,” it is clear that while some cast members are no longer with us, their contributions continue to resonate with audiences, making the series an enduring classic in British entertainment history.
