Zlatan Ibrahimovic has demonstrated his love for Manchester United following his decision to retire from football.

The superstar spent just two years at Old Trafford after being brought to the club by then-manager Jose Mourinho in 2016, but evidently enjoyed his time in the Premier League.

Ibrahimovic won the Community Shield, Carabao Cup and Europa League during his spell at the Red Devils before his contract was terminated ahead of a move to join LA Galaxy.

The 41-year-old announced his retirement with immediate effect and was presented to the AC Milan crowd at their final Serie A game of the season on Sunday.

United joined well-wishers in celebrating Ibrahimovic’s career, posting on Twitter: ‘A distinguished career for a man like no other.

‘Congratulations on everything you’ve achieved and all the best in your retirement, @Ibra_Official.’

The Sweden star responded by retweeting the post alongside three heart emojis as United supporters joined in with tributes to their former striker.

Ibrahimovic scored 29 goals in 53 appearances for United, most notably bagging the winning goal in the club’s League Cup final win over Southampton in 2017.

He forged a concrete relationship with Red Devils supporters during his time at the club and at the time of his departure stated: ‘Great things also come to an end and it is time to move on after two fantastic seasons with Manchester United.

‘Thank you to the club, the fans, the team, the coach, the staff and everybody who shared with me this part of my history. #ForeverRed’.

In 2018, the superstar further explained his relationship with the club, telling former player Bojan Djordjic that United was ‘special’.

‘I gave as much as I could for as long as I could; when I got injured, I got support in a different way. They always stood behind me and my teammates.

‘They are special: everywhere I see red, I think about United. It will remain in history and my career; when I look back at my time with United, I will do it with a smile. I wish them all the best in the future.’
