Meet The Boy Who Vowed To Complete “10 Acts Of Kindness” By 10 Years Old

Maxx Raser is almost 12 now and continues his mission to be kind. When he turned ten in 2023, Maxx heard about Bryan Tsiliacos, who had vowed to complete 30 acts of kindness to commemorate his 30th 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡day. Maxx liked the idea and promised to complete 10 acts of kindness to celebrate turning 10. Maxx began his mission of kindness while his mom documented it for him on Instagram.

For the first of his 10 acts of kindness, Maxx donated 200 sandwiches to the MCF Homeless Shelter in San Francisco. Bryan heard about Maxx and joined the effort. Max went shopping, buying bread and sandwich meats. Once the sandwiches were complete, Maxx put them in coolers and set off to meet Bryan. The beginning of his journey was successful. Garvin Thomas of NBC Bay Area followed Maxx throughout all 10 acts of kindness.

For the second of his 10 acts of kindness, Maxx organized a coat drive. He set a goal of collecting 150 coats for donation and ultimately collected 229. Working through One Warm Coat (OWC), Maxx added a special inspirational note to the recipient of each coat he collected. The coats Maxx collected were donated to four shelters in the Bay Area.

As February rolled in, Maxx aimed to provide 200 Valentine’s bags for families through the Ronald McDonald House Charities in the Bay Area. RMHC works with families with sick 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren. Maxx enlisted help to assemble the bags from his hockey teammates, friends, and family. What a terrific way to spread some love.

For his fifth act of kindness, Maxx worked with Bombas to deliver socks to veterans at the VA Hospital in Livermore. While there, Maxx called out bingo numbers for the vets. Maxx’s sixth of 10 acts of kindness was a Dine-to-Donate at Gianni’s in San Ramon. When diners ate at the restaurant, 10 percent of sales and all tips were donated to the Wheelchair Foundation. Volunteer servers staffed the restaurant during the event. Maxx raised $1,025 for the Wheelchair Foundation at the dining event and $2,000 overall.

The seventh act of kindness involved a shoreline cleanup project at Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at Garretson Point. Maxx’s hockey team, family, and friends all contributed to the very successful beach cleanup.

Next, a Stuffed Animal Adoption to benefit Golden Gate Lab Rescue. The animal rescue organization rescues and rehomes Labrador retrievers. Maxx dedicated this act of kindness in memory of his yellow Lab, Harley. He set a goal to raise $500, and they ended up with more than double, raising $1,150. Maxx also volunteered with the shelter to assist with their Christmas holiday adoption event.

Winding Down The Year Of Kindness

Working with the Rock Solid Foundation, Maxx embarked on his ninth act of kindness: building a playhouse for a 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 with cancer named Boden. During the building project, Maxx’s friends sold lemonade and took donations. Once the project was complete, they loaded it into a truck to deliver it to Boden.

Maxx moved on to the last of his 10 acts of kindness by sponsoring a Pledges for Pucks fundraiser. Proceeds went to benefit the US Figure Skating Family Support Fund. Many remember the January 29, 2025, plane crash in Washington DC, that took the lives of several US figure skaters. Maxx and his hockey team held a puck shoot-off, shooting 67 pucks into the goal to honor the 67 lives lost in the crash. Maxx set his goal at 67 pledges at $1 per puck ($67 per pledge). Donors could pledge per puck or opt for a flat rate donation of any amount. He ended with 79 pledges and raised $4,587 for the families.

Finishing his 10 acts of kindness, Maxx offered special thanks to his TriValley Hockey Club family. His teammates helped throughout the year and supported his efforts. NBC’s Garvin Thomas returned to interview Maxx again during his final act of kindness. Kristi Yamaguchi shared Maxx’s story on X (Twitter).

We don’t think Maxx has finished being a hero. He had a phenomenal year performing his 10 acts of kindness, raising a lot of money for charities, and helping many people. You can learn more about Maxx on the Instagram page his mom set up for him.
