Kevin Durant accuses Brooklyn Nets supporters of “making s*** up” in a tirade on twitter

Kevin Durant has developed a reputation for hitting out at fans on social media, and he took aim at Brooklyn Nets fans on Twitter before deleting the post shortly later

Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant has once again taken to social media as he hit out at Brooklyn Nets fans for ‘making s*** up’.

Durant is one of the most outspoken players in the NBA, and he is also one of the more active sporting stars on social media. The Suns forward is one of the greatest players in modern NBA history but he has received criticism for his willingness to engage with fans in debates on social media while using burner accounts.

The 34-year-old’s use of social media has been hit out at, although there is reason to believe his active status online and interactions with fans should be celebrated given he is an NBA superstar. On Friday though, Durant hit out at fans of his former team for perhaps twisting the narrative.

After Durant’s friend Eddie Gonzalez praised Bruce Brown as he performed in the NBA Finals, a fan hit back and said: “That same player KD didn’t want back on the Nets.” Durant responded: “At some point, nets twitter has to stop making s*** up….I know, I know, I’m soft for this tweet. I’ll delete soon.”

Durant’s comment came in response to a Nets fan who accused him of not wanting Bruce Brown to remain on Brooklyn’s roster. Brown signed with the Denver Nuggets as a free agent in the 2022 offseason, and the 26-year-old has been a key role player to help the Western Conference team reach the 2023 NBA Finals.

Gonzalez, a close friend of Durant, hit out at the tweet in defence of the Suns ace, writing: “As someone who spent a lotta time going to and from games with him in bk… this narrative delusional as hell.”

Durant appeared to take further aim at the Nets when replying to another user, writing: “Nets twitter thinks I forcefully made all the decisions for the nets, nets twitter thinks I vetoed everything the front office wanted to do. The imagination is amazing.”

Amid a flurry of tweets where he generally asked Nets fans to expand on their accusations, Durant took issue with one user, who thought the former Nets ace should not have stuck by Kyrie Irving. As a result, Durant said: “Y’all boys delusional lol once again, u don’t know what’s been said or done behind the scenes. U just really imagining s***.”

Durant has developed a reputation for having burner Twitter accounts after the 13-time All-Star hit out at former Oklahoma City Thunder teammates back in 2017. His Thunder had agonisingly lost to the Golden State Warriors in the previous playoffs, so his fans felt betrayed and hit out at Durant, leading to his retaliation which exposed his burners.

After his slip-up, Durant was found to be operating multiple burner accounts on various social media platforms. He had Twitter accounts to hit back at haters as well as other Instagram accounts used for his private life.

The Nets traded Durant to the Suns before the NBA Trade Deadline in February after he re-issued his trade request from the 2022 offseason. He developed a fine relationship with Devin Booker, although Phoenix crashed out at the hands of the Nuggets in the second-round of the Western Conference playoffs.

For the 2022/23 season, Durant averaged 29 points, 8.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game on 52 percent shooting from the field. He also shot 33.3 percent from deep in an encouraging showing across his 16th NBA season.
