Golden State Warriors Only Have 8 Out Of 17 Players Left From Their Championship-Winning Roster In 2022

The Golden State Warriors won the 2021-22 NBA championship, making it their fourth title in eight years. The team was built around their legendary core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, but they also had a lot of interesting pieces around the trio.

As of June 24, 2023, only eight players out of the seventeen that were on the roster exactly a year ago are still a part of it. The core remains in place, but many others have moved on or been traded away.

Players still on the Golden State Warriors:

Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Kevon Looney, Jonathan Kuminga, Gary Payton II, Moses Moody.

Players that have left the Golden State Warriors since 2022:

Andre Iguodala, Jordan Poole, Otto Porter Jr., Nemanja Bjelica, Juan Toscano-Anderson, James Wiseman, Damion Lee, Chris Chiozza, Quinndary Weatherspoon.

Andre Iguodala, who was a member of the Warriors for all four of their championship runs, signed a one-year deal with the team after they won it all in 2022, but only played 8 games for the team in 2022-23 before retiring at the end of the year. He is no longer on the team.

The biggest surprise was probably the recent departure of Jordan Poole. He seemed to be the future of the Warriors after his 2021-22 success, but despite getting a huge contract extension, was traded away earlier this month in a deal involving Chris Paul.

Otto Porter Jr. was a huge contributor in their playoff run to the title, but after the season ended, he signed with the Toronto Raptors in free agency in 2022. Another role player, Nemanja Bjelica, left the NBA in 2022, choosing to play for Fenerbache in Europe instead.

Juan Toscano-Anderson also left in free agency, signing with the Los Angeles Lakers after the season. James Wiseman was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Despite his talent, he never broke through with Golden State, being traded to the Detroit Pistons in 4-team trade in February.

Damion Lee was another piece that left in free agency, signing with the Phoenix Suns in 2022-23. Golden State also moved on from lesser contributors Chris Chiozza and Quinndary Weatherspoon. The team will look much different going into the 2023-24 season than it did just a year ago when they were at the top of the world.

Draymond Green Could Shockingly Be The Next Name On This List

Draymond Green has been the heartbeat of the Warriors for a long time, he is the man that makes the team tick. However, Green is now a free agent after declining his $27 million player option for next season. And he is already drawing interest from a lot of other contending teams around the league.

If he does move on from the Warriors, he will be the most significant piece to have done so in recent times. Green is an incredibly valuable defender and facilitator, and the team will be hoping they can retain him. Although even if they don’t, they have a starting five that will keep them in contention for the championship next season.
