Manchester United fans believe Alejandro Garnacho has dropped Mason Mount transfer ‘hint’

Man United are continuing to chip away at Chelsea’s resistance to sell Mason Mount for a lower fee.

A number of Manchester United supporters believe that the club is making progress with its pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount – and it is thanks to Alejandro Garnacho.

United have identified Mount as their primary target to strengthen their midfield options this summer and are determined to wrap up his signature as quickly as possible. The Reds, however, are understood to have seen three bids turned down for the England international so far, causing them to become unhappy with the Londoners.

John Murtough, who is United’s football director, is understood to have taken a dim view of Chelsea’s strategy of communicating the Reds’ bids through the club’s dedicated correspondents in the capital. United’s latest bid for the 24-year-old was worth £55million, but Chelsea are holding out for £65million.

Mount’s contract is up at the end of June 2024, meaning some United supporters have expressed fears of the club paying over the odds for a player who has just 12 months remaining on his current deal. The midfielder has no intentions of signing a new contract and wants to join United.

But with Chelsea continuing to knock back bid after bid, the situation is showing no immediate signs of being finalised. However, some United supporters are of the opinion that progress could be being made because of Garnacho’s Instagram activity.

Eagle-eyed United supporters have spotted that the Argentine, who could be handed the No.7 shirt ahead of next season, is following Mount on Instagram. Though many of those excited by the supposed development believe it is a ‘hint’ that a deal could be close to being finalised, it is impossible to know just how long the youngster has been following the Chelsea academy graduate on the social media platform.

That means suggestions that Garnacho has just started following him could be wide of the mark. It is more than possible that he may have been following him for a while, meaning this is supposedly new development is, in fact, nothing to get excited about.

Nevertheless, several Reds supporters took to social media to react to the supposed development, believing that it could be a sign that Mount will soon become a teammate of Garnacho’s in M16. Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what some had to say on social media.
