Pochettino Could Have A Serious Team Next Season With £52m Striker Transfer

Mauricio Pochettino could significantly bolster Chelsea’s frontline this summer if they can get their hands on Dusan Vlahovic. The 23-year-old striker faces an increasingly uncertain future at Juventus, with the Old Lady reportedly said to be considering his exit.

According to The Telegraph, the Italian giants are interested in Romelu Lukaku as a potential replacement for Vlahovic. The Serbia international, who sees his contract at the Allianz Stadium expire in 2026, featured 27 times for Juventus in the Serie A last season, scoring 10 times.

He arrived in Turin a couple of years ago – after snubbing Arsenal – as one of the most exciting young strikers in Europe. Vlahovic first made a name for himself at Fiorentina but, under Massimiliano Allegri, he’s struggled to reach the same heights.

Baring in mind Pochettino helped mould Harry Kane into one of the World’s top strikers, the Blues boss could very well help the £51.5million-rated striker unlock his lofty potential. So, with that being said, football.london have taken a look at how Chelsea could lineup next season if Vlahovic follows Moises Caicedo to Cobham this summer…

Formation

Pochettino is well known for his attack-minded approach. Over the years, he’s usually preferred a 4-2-3-1 – which looks like a 4-3-3 while attacking and a 4-4-2 when defending.

Goalkeeper

With Edouard Mendy expected to test himself in Saudi Arabia next season, Kepa Arrizbalaga will likely continue as the Blues’ first-choice shot-stopper. In an ideal world, Chelsea manage to secure the signature of Mike Maignan from AC Milan, but a deal could be difficult to complete.

Defence

While many would rather Ben Chilwell, or even Lewis Hall, at left-back next season, the Blues could take a leaf out of Mikel Arteta’s book and trust Levi Colwill in the ‘Ben White role’. At Arsenal, he provides cover for Bukayo Saka, who is freed from the shackles of as much defensive responsibility.

On the right, Reece James could play the ‘Oleksandr Zinchenko role’. It’s difficult to overlook Chilwell, but the England international isn’t as effective as a full-back as he is a wing-back, but he’ll likely be one of the first names on the team sheet next season.

Midfield

If Chelsea can partner Enzo Fernandez with Caicedo then the Argentine will finally be able to step into a deep-lying No.8 role. The south American duo can play a double pivot and sit behind Christopher Nkunku, who will likely support the lone striker.

As for the wingers, Mykhailo Mudryk is expected to be operated as an outlet on the left, while Noni Madueke cuts inside on the right-wing. Raheem Sterling has the potential to cement a place in the starting lineup if he can reach the heights he once enjoyed at Manchester City.

Attack

While Chelsea are expected to unveil Nicolas Jackson in the coming days, Vlahovic could transform the Blues’ frontline. Between the duo, they’d provide each other with great competition for a place in the starting lineup.

Starting XI:

Kepa; James (c), Fofana, Badiashile, Colwill; Enzo, Caicedo; Mudryk, Nkunku, Madueke; Vlahovic.
