Chelsea could be willing to sacrifice millions over the sale of Mason Mount if it helps them wrap up a deal for Moises Caicedo. The 24-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United recently, with his contract at Stamford Bridge set to expire at the end of next season.

football.london understands that the Blues were once close to reaching an agreement with Mount over a new deal but, following his return from the World Cup in December, an offer was no longer on the table. In the new year, Chelsea reopened talks with the England international, however he didn’t want to sign a one-year extension.

It’s believed that Mount hasn’t received an improved offer since, meaning that he’ll become a free agent at the end of next season. football.london understands United have been leading the race to secure his signature despite having had several bids rejected.

According to widespread reports, the Red Devils walked away from talks after Chelsea demanded £58million, plus £7million in add-ons, for the Cobham graduate. But, with pre-season just around the corner and the Blues unwilling to lose Mount for free, the two clubs are expected to speak directly and find a resolution to the saga.

According to The Guardian, Chelsea officials are prepared to make a compromise with United on Mount’s £65million valuation, with ‘little to gain’ from him returning to Cobham training ground in a few days time. The report states that Erik ten Hag’s side have a £55million offer – £5million of which is add-ons – on the table.

The Blues have been eager to offload players before June 30 in order to help comply with Financial Fair Play regulations. Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic have already joined Arsenal and Manchester City, respectively, while Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly have jetted off to Saudi Arabia.

The significant windfall secured from their sales are expected to fund a bid for Caicedo. football.london understands that Chelsea hold a strong interest in the Brighton midfielder, and they’re aware that he could cost in the region of £80million.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues are set to open talks with the Seagulls in the next day or so. If Todd Boehly can quickly tie up a deal with United for Mount then Chelsea will receive another huge cash injection ahead of a potential bid for Caicedo…
