Chelsea great Eden Hazard is reportedly being eyed-up by Major League Soccer side Inter Miami.
Hazard is currently a free agent after terminating his Real Madrid contract in June. The 32-year-old had one year remaining on his deal at the Santiago Bernabeu but decided to leave the club after managing only seven goals since moving there from Chelsea in 2019.
He had reportedly been close to ending his playing career, though reports are now surfacing that Miami are planning to make a move for the Belgian. According to Relevo, David Beckham’s side have entered the process to sign the former Chelsea star.
A move to the United States would see Hazard join up with Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba. The former Barcelona players have both signed for Miami following the expiry of their contracts in Europe.
Hazard would become one of the MLS club’s three Designated Players should he agree to move. The ruling allows each team to sign players outside of their salary cap. However, Miami only has one designated slot open, which will be filled by Messi.
Should Hazard move to the States, either Joseph Martinez or Rodolfo Pizarro – the two other designated players – would have to drop out or the Belgian would receive a significantly lower salary than he was on at Chelsea or Real in the region of £1.6 million-per-year.
The MLS isn’t Hazard’s only option. The same report claims that Belgium top-flight side RWD Molenbeek have offered him the chance to return to the country, where he would link up withhis brother, Kylian.
It currently remains to be seen whether the former Stamford Bridge favourite will continue his playing career or announce his retirement after a difficult four seasons.
