LeBron James and Kevin Durant are arguably two of the most unstoppable players of the 2010s, they were in a league by themselves during that decade. And they have also faced off in the NBA Finals three times, with James winning once and Durant twice.
Despite this, most fans would place LeBron higher than KD, thanks to his many accomplishments. And it seems Allen Iverson agrees, too, at least that’s what he said when asked about it.
“I gotta pick LeBron,” Iverson said. “Because he is in the discussion of the best, all-time… LeBron? Man, LeBron mad as hell bro. KD is a certified 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁er. It’s a tough decision. It’s difficult. But see, Durant and LeBron, there’s a difference. LeBron is a 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁er in his own way, he can do it all.”
Kevin Durant’s game is more like Allen Iverson’s between the two superstars. But despite this, Iverson knows the value that King James brings to the table as an all-rounder. He picked LBJ over KD thanks to the former’s versatility, and his ability to do things in a way no one else has. Durant is an unstoppable scorer, but there have been players like that in the past. LeBron James is unique.
Kevin Durant Doesn’t Care About Being Better Than LeBron James Or Michael Jordan
Kevin Durant has won two championships and two Finals MVPs, which makes him a legendary star in NBA history. But LeBron James won twice as many, and Michael Jordan won thrice as many. So there isn’t much of a conversation to be had in terms of legacy points. And the man himself once said that he doesn’t care to be better than the two players in the GOAT debate.
“It wasn’t about: ‘I want to be the best ever. I want to be better than LeBron or [Michael Jordan].’ I don’t give a s–t about that. I want to wake up every day and do what I do. If we win, I know that stuff comes with me being the best that I can be.”
Fans always want to rank players and stars and have discussions about who is better than whom, but players have never cared much about any of those discussions. Kevin Durant knows exactly who he is, so he doesn’t bother himself with being better than LeBron James. And with all due respect to him, the conversation isn’t even really a valid one for now.
