Mason Mount has officially started work as a Manchester United player, embarking on his first day of pre-season training. The Reds have released the first images of the new midfielder at work with his new teammates ahead of the start of their 2023/24 campaign and next week’s opening friendly against Leeds in Oslo.
The 24-year-old completed his transfer to United from Chelsea on Wednesday, signing a five-year contract with the option of an additional year.
United ‘held firm’ and agreed to a deal of £55m rising to £60m, after Chelsea had demanded £58m up front and £7m in add-ons for their academy graduate.
Mount told MUTV: “Several months ago, it became clear that I wasn’t in Chelsea’s plans moving forward. Once I knew that United were involved, my decision was made up.
“A massive club, huge iconic players have played here, and I wanted to be a part of that from the beginning. Getting in early and ready for pre-season to start was a main objective of mine as well.”
