‘I Know’: This Is The Reason Why Many Chelsea Players Are Constantly Injured Right Now

Former Tottenham midfielder Andros Townsend has claimed he thinks he knows why Chelsea have so many injuries right now.

He told ‘The Monday Night Club’ that the emphasis Mauricio Pochettino puts on training early in his tenure is almost certainly behind the plethora of problems at the club right now.

Every week it feels as if Pochettino has another injury to add to his list of unavailable players at Stamford Bridge right now.

In pre-season, he dealt with long-term blows to Wesley Fofana and new signing Christopher Nkunku.

Townsend has Chelsea injury theory

Even since the campaign has begun though, he has lost the likes of Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Reece James and Carney Chukwuemeka have all missed extended periods of time.

This has undoubtedly had an effect on things on the pitch, and can be one of the reasons as to why they have struggled so much.

Townsend has claimed though he believes there’ll be a turnaround where the Blues reap the rewards later in the season.

He said: “I’d be very surprised if Pochettino in his pre interview for the job didn’t say this is a project, I need a couple of years, the first six months may not work out but they will come good. Similar to Spurs, he started sluggishly, people were calling for his head and then he turned it around.

“With Pochettino, when he first comes in, He puts a bigger emphasis on the training side of it, gym side of it, making his players more robust, which is why we are starting to see a lot of injuries from Chelsea because to get more robust your body is going to be in pain for the first few weeks, so I know he targets the second half of the season for his side to come good.”
