Gone are those days when fans debated over Stephen Curry and LeBron James. And times now have certainly changed where the conversations about the two superstars teaming up have peaked. Thanks to the Paris Olympics blockbuster. While the idea of teaming up already took a beating last season because of agent Rich Paul, now the two bigwigs have taken the matter into their own hands despite the financial implications.
The NBA world witnessed the flashes of the blockbuster union in Paris. Especially, the Pick & Roll between Bron and Steph reflected the growing chemistry between the superstars. Following the gold quest, the idea of union only floated in the air, until the Golden State Warriors superstar brought it down to the ground.
In a recent interview, discussing his partnership with Nirvana Super Waters & Seltzers, Steph heaped praise on James. The Baby-faced Assassin said, “All the battles we’ve had on the court and the back and forth, the fact that we actually got to be teammates, not just in any game like an All-Star game or whatever, but in high stakes basketball with a lot on the line…I think there’s a deepened respect and friendship there.” Importantly, he didn’t stop at that. He also added, “Hopefully, there will be more experiences in the future even if we’re teammates or not,” leaving the NBA world in a frenzy.
In the last two days, these words traveled all over the NBA world and finally reached LeBron James’ doorstep. The LA Lakers superstar did nothing but ignite a fire. King James, who recently signed a two-year extension with the LA, shared a post that carried Curry’s quote on his IG stories.
What are the financial implications of LeBron James-Stephen Curry’s union?
LeBron James, who will turn 40 in December, signed up a two-year contract for $102 million. By the time, the superstar completes the contract, he will turn 42. On the other hand, Steph signed a one-year contract extension worth $62 million, which will mature in 2027.
Considering the age factors, it’s almost impossible for the superstars to complete their current contracts and join forces. So either of them has to break their contract to make the dream come true. Moreover, it could be quite impossible for Bron, as he has his son on the Lakers roster. Maybe we could witness Steph donning the Purple & Gold threads.
Interestingly, last season, the Warriors approached the Lakers to trade LeBron James. It didn’t turn fruitful, as it was turned down instantly. While the conversations regarding it vanished over time, Marc Stein brought it up again with a revelation. Stein revealed that it was Rich Paul, who adamantly refused to take the deal. The report also stated that Paul feared Bron could face a similar situation like Kevin Durant when he moved to the Warriors, in search of rings.
Nevertheless, the talk is up again. Will the superstars go against the odds and team up for their last dance? Let us know in the comments below.
