The Miami Heat are reportedly the frontrunners to acquire Damian Lillard’s services. The player finally decided to ask out of Portland, shocking the NBA in the process.
Moreover, it was reported that the star point guard has the Miami Heat as his preferred destination. This would be a terrific match, but before it becomes a reality, the Heat must offer a compelling package to the Portland Trail Blazers. That said, Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report sheds light on the potential package the Heat would send to Portland.
“The Heat are prepared to offer a package centered around Tyler Herro, with possibly Duncan Robinson and picks, sources say. The Heat would prefer to keep Caleb Martin out of any trade scenarios.”
This is a solid return for Lillard, but it might not be enough for the Blazers. In recent days, it was reported that they weren’t interested in adding Tyler Herro to the roster, so they’ll need to find new ways to make this trade happen.
Lillard is reportedly keen on this move and the Blazers are working to make it happen. However, it’ll take more than his desire to join the Heat to complete a trade that would make the Heat a serious championship contender next season.
The Heat Will Have Stiff Competition For Damian Lillard
If Miami fails to make this happen, other teams will be paying attention. As soon as the trade request was announced, a couple of teams were mentioned as Lillard’s potential landing spots.
The Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers and San Antonio Spurs could make a shocking move and try to lure Lillard away from Miami. The Brooklyn Nets reportedly want to join the party and give these four teams a run for their money.
After 11 seasons in the league, Lillard is ready to win that elusive NBA championship and any of these teams presents a good opportunity. However, it seems like he’s set on the Heat and nothing else.
