Kendrick Perkins Claims The Kings Will Be Better Than The Warriors In The 2023-24 Season

Kendrick Perkins’ latest hot has him picking the Sacramento Kings as the better team over the Golden State Warriors in the upcoming season.

The former NBA star Perkins believed it was the other California team that would give the Warriors a run for their money and, in fact, be even better than them. Speaking on First Take:

“The [Phoenix] Suns are better. The Denver Nuggets are better than [the Warriors]. And I’m willing to go out on a limb and say the Sacramento Kings are better than them,” Perkins said Monday on “First Take.” “Although they did win a seven-game series, going into this season, I love this Sacramento Kings team over the Golden State Warriors for the simple fact that now they have a year of experience under their belt, they know what it takes to get to the postseason, they know how it feels to be in the postseason.”

He further added:

“They are only going to get better. … So when I look at the Golden State Warriors, I said it last year and I’m going to stand on it now, their dynasty run, that window for championships, that has closed.”

While Golden State pulled off one of the bigger moves of the offseason, trading Jordan Poole for Chris Paul, the Kings have been targeting Kyle Kuzma in free agency, while also retaining their core trio of De’Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis, and Harrison Barnes.

The Kings met the Warriors in the first round of the playoffs this past season, and the series stretched to Game 7. But it was the fight that mattered in the postseason, giving experts reason to believe that the Kings would make strong contenders next season.

Kendrick Perkins Believes There Won’t Be A Dynasty For The Next 20 Years In The NBA

Based on the outcome of the last few NBA seasons, Kendrick Perkins believes there won’t be a dynasty in the NBA for the next 20 years.

“It’s the field, it’s the growth of the NBA,” Perkins said in a recent episode of ESPN’s NBA Today. “When we look at the last five seasons, we’ve had five different NBA champions. The Raptors, the Lakers, the Bucks, Golden State, and now the Nuggets.

“You have every front office and GMs in their offices trying to see how can they get better for next season. Teams are going to grow, teams are going to improve their roster, they’re going to improve their coaching staff.”

“So it’s going to be hard,” Perkins continued. “Not only for them to have a dynasty, but to have a repeat. I expect this; I don’t think we’ll see another repeat for the next 15 to 20 years.”

This surely is a bold take, and it cannot be discounted that there have been different winners, and the formation of superteams hasn’t necessarily aided in teams winning consecutive titles.

Whether the Warriors can reclaim their glory now in the aftermath of Perkins’ comments remains to be seen.
